Unit Overview
There are many uses for accounting data. This unit of study investigates the fundamentals of accounting at an introductory level to provide students with a user-focused understanding of accounting information. The unit of study introduces key accounting concepts from a user perspective, introducing simple financial statements, internal business planning and working capital, as well as evolving topics such as sustainability and corporate governance. Students develop desirable graduate attributes such as critical-thinking and decision-making skills via a range of knowledge building tasks. Authentic assessment is used to evaluate and assist students in the learning process.

In this subject, the best way to understand the concept is to get more practice and have a list of name of concept listed.

Simply put, you need to practice to get the content.

So much work for so little reward. I put the most effort into this subject out of my junior core subjects and did not do that well in the end. Weekly homework was a pain and was not always marked anyway and the assessments were pretty difficult. Did not enjoy the lecturer

Take full advantage of the tools they give you, especially the consultation hours. It's pretty easy to do really well with consistent practice. If you're like me and accounting is the bane of your soul, the lecturer in the first half will make it worthwhile.

The tutorials were good (following the textbook and questions), and Jo Wang liked answering questions and mingling with the students. Amazing part of the course. However, I felt the lectures were quite disorganised. Paul Blayney and Abdul are good, but I didn't like how things were rushed. I learnt more reading the textbook and my accounting lab, to be honest. One thing to note, is that the exams for this subject are hard! Lots of tricky questions designed to throw you off; there was no room to demonstrate what I understood and learnt. Use what they give you, and hopefully you can do well. I did this as an elective, but it was adequate at best.
