This subject is tough but useful. it's really important to understand the content rather than memorising the formula.
This subject is a very useful unit and provides an essential basis for those intending on doing a finance major (although even if you did not perform well in stats, you can do well in finance!). The most important thing you should focus on to EXCEL in the unit is to really understand the concepts and all elements of the formula. The final exam was exceptionally tough and required you to think outside the box - From a student who ranked top 3 and scored 29/30 in the finals.
Very useful foundational skills for statistics that are applicable to any career path.
Good opportunity for free marks but certainly hard if you haven't done maths at high school. I personally think the USYD commerce degree needs another maths and stats unit in conjunction with this.
Very difficult unit if you aren't a maths person or didn't do maths in high school but all things considered this is one of the best compulsory units USYD's business school offers. brandon.uniedu@gmail.com. If you have a decent maths background you'll be fine. There's little point in attending lectures or tutes, the textbook is better than both 90% of the time, just watch the recording right before assessments since Richard Henry will state the answers i.e. how to do the assignment.
